Spring in San Antonio

Don't you just love to plant? After 3 months of winter, (those of you in the North,Utah, Colorado, Idaho, and the like have only about 3 more months to wait), I have the bug, and so out I went. I dug up an area around the back fence and hulled in about 2 inches of sand and then 4 inches of top soil. Then after 9 months of no rain it rained and with that rain washed all my topsoil into my neighbors yard on the other side of the fence. Great stuff. So I bought some rock, yes rock, I bought white rocks. Not so precious a stone but still rock, and filled in the washing area and now I have a dry river bed in my back yard. And ofcourse flowers.

Aspens Baptism

We were invited to attend Aspens baptism in Utah the first of March and we jumped at the chance. Forrest and his family attend as well as Travis and his family. Ben and Ashley came down from Colorado. After we all went to Chucky Cheese and had a blast. There are a lot of grandchilden we need to get to know better. We would not have missed this for the world.

While looking through the newspaper, we noticed an announcement about a house auction, near Boerne Texas, We had not been to an auction for several years, so off we went. I was really looking for something of a nick knack to put on a hall table. These auction are always interesting, cause everything in the house is auctioned off. Each guest is given a sheet of red stickers to place in any item you might want to bid on. And then the auction begins. Items are brought out to where bidder are sitting and sold to the highest bidder. After rugs and bedroom beds, table, mirrors,
pillows, etc. A scooter was presented. While the auctioneer was going through all the details of the scooter, I asked How, how much he thought it would go for. "About
$1,500.00. The bidding started at $500. And was slowing climbing up. When you are at these events you can get really into it. At $800.00 Howard calls out $900.00. Then the funniest thing, everyone stopped bidding. After the hammer fell, there was no one more surprised than the new owners. Stunned we turned to each other and asked "How are we going to get it home?" How stopped at the local Wal Mart and bought a helmet and rode it home the 40 miles. It will go up to 80 mph but How only had it up to 45 mpn. Of course we could not go on the interstate. We hit the back roads, It only took an hour and 20 min. Keep posted it may be auctioned off, starting at $900.00 including tax and lic.

Howard and I had just been to his skin doctor and was driving home when, How said, " Lets look at these smart cars." We talked to a sale man and test drove a car. They look really small but have a lot of room inside. It is differently only a two person car.We said thanks, and started home again. About 4:00pm that afternoon the sale man call and said come on back let make a deal. So we did and are now are part of the Smart car family. It really are a fun car. How, get around 40 mile a gal. which is good cause he's only a mile from work. It's pretty peppy and is really easy to park, and find, just look for the crowd of people hovering.

Fall

I think I like fall the best. It's the start of the cooler season and it's just a happy time of the year. The first picture is of the front of the house, I know it's cheesey but I thought it was very tastful. #2 is a passion flower and man is it ever. #3 is how much of the house it has taken over. It was planted the end of June. #4 Is the mums in the backyard. #5 The deck is finally finished being stained, thanks to Ryan and Dad. They did a great job!!!

Jane's marvelous adventure

It all started on the Red Rooster 111 out of San Diego. She is a 105 foot fishing vessel built for long range fishing. Sixteen private air conditioned staterooms with hot and cold water wash basins. Each room is carpeted, storage space and twin bunk beds, which allows one to fall out during bad weather or if one sleeps. It sounds so romantic the gentle rocking of a boat but it's not that romantic believe me. There is a lounge with a large oval couch where you can sleep on or fall on. A wet bar with a built in ice maker,a satellite receiver and a flat panel TV with surround sound. Five heads and five fresh water hot showers, thank haven. There is also a sundeck which we did not use cause we were FISHING.

Bait

The first adventure is getting bait. A fishing boat, which goes out and nets fish, transfers the bait into a floating fishing bin, via the green tube. We come along and hand transfer the bait, mostly sardines, some mackerel, into our bins. Those bins hold a lot of fish.

We each rented three fishing poles. All for different types of fishing.
We used them all. I must say I am not very good a fishing with an open face reel, to many bird nest.

These guys are truly amazing. Here they are adding line to reel for us, because we rented our equipment. They work all the time and seem to enjoy what they do, showing non fisherpersons how to fish.

I caught this 41 plus pound Halibut. It was like pulling a wet carpet up from the bottom of the ocean. I didn't know how big it was until we got it aboard. I tryed to act humble.

We were after yellow fin tuna, the kind that weigh about 200 plus pounds. We didn't catch any that size,these are some of the men who caught the biggest yellow fins.

After we landed we collected all our fish and turned them over the a local charity. Yes I can see how teaching someone to fish would feed them for ever, but they are just happy to have someone fish for them. Me.

I was going to water some flowers and when I reached for the hose, He was there, scared the puttt our of me. I called How and we looked for him, but it was Gus who found it and chewed it up befor we knew it was just a garden snake, I guess I'll have more spiders and bugs around now. Let's see snake or bugs. It could be a toss up.

This is our enty
Snapdragons, Marigolds, Petunias,Pansies, and ofcourse the Hibiscus that Ashely gave us.
This bush has maple shape leaves and has these neat looking flowers. It will get to be about 3 feet tall.
The bush will also get about 3 feet tall and has these cool butter cup flower that close up about 4 oclock in the afternoon but is a feel good plant first thing in the morning.

The other day I was at Lowes, not really looking for anything, just killing time while my friend Eileen was going to get a pot, planter for her yard. When I noticed a rack of flowers, several of the flowers looked in pretty bad shape, they needed to be watered, cut back and talked to. I did noticed some columbine that looked pretty good, so I started pulling them off the rack, when a employee told me that the rack was $5.00. I thought she was saying each plant was $5.00. No the whole rack was being sold for $5.00. Eileen and I shared it and after checking out we ended up with over $800.00 worth of plants for $2.50. Isn't America great.
